Winter interest

Posted on Tuesday February 22, 2011 at 02:17PM

Ok, so we are all getting a little tired of the white stuff out there and are looking forward to Spring, However….. this is a great time to pay some attention to our “Winter” landscape (or lack thereof)
Jade Carousel Barberry is a great little shrub to add some interest to an otherwise boring landscape during the “other” 6 months of the year when we are no longer gardening.

As you can see from this photo I took this winter, it is covered with beautiful little red berries that persist all winter long.
It stays compact at about 3’ x 3’ so it can liven up almost any spot in the yard, and it’s prickly barbs can also help deter pets from creating chaos in your gardens.
Although it is a pretty little green shrub all summer while your other plants are bursting forth with all their glory of color, fall is when it really begins to show its beauty. When all the other garden show offs have died back and lost their luster, this little beauty turns a brilliant and glowing mass of reds and oranges.

This fall’s show seemed particularly gorgeous, so be sure to visit Sprouts Greenhouse early this year to get your own little powerhouse of color this year!
